You’ll relive simpler times as historical interpreters demonstrate the trades and crafts of villagers in preserved structures built during the 18th and 19th centuries. Don’t just read about the past- experience it through hands-on activities that connect the past to the present.

At the heart of Old Bedford Village is our community of volunteers! Without them, our mission of preserving our history and connecting it to the present in real and meaningful ways would not be possible. If you’ve got a skill to share or a willingness to help, there’s a place for you at Old Bedford Village. We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities for any skill level, so whether you’re an amateur or a master artisan, you can lend a helping hand!

We had two amazing weekends for this year’s Murder Mystery evenings. The autumn weather was perfect! We welcomed guests from near and far, and our amazing writer and cast of volunteers provided them with a truly unique and enjoyable experience. Thanks to all who made this event possible, including the Boy Scouts, the door holders, the Sheetz Fellows from PSU Altoona, our incredible Village staff, and our Board of Directors who assisted in a variety of different ways throughout the evenings.

Please take some time to review the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our Murder Mystery Evenings before you join us Saturday, October 4 or October 11! And if you have additional questions for us, feel free to add them in the comments!

WHAT IS MURDER MYSTERY?
The most fun you can have on the first two Saturdays of October! When you arrive, you will be given background information about a murder that has occured in the Village. You will also be given a list of 8 suspects, a map showing their locations, and a few brief notes about who they are and how they fit into the case.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Following a brief orientation, you will be free to travel through our historic Village where you can visit each of our 8 suspects. They will tell you a bit about themselves and then give you time to ask them questions. Are they telling you the truth? Are they hiding something? It’s up to you to find out! After approximately 5 minutes, you will have to move on, but feel free to return later if you have more you want to know! When you’ve interviewed all of the suspects and decided who you think is guilty, return to our event barn. There, we have an area assigned for each suspect. Sit in the area for the suspect you wish to accuse, and all will be revealed!

DO I HAVE TO BE THERE FOR THE FULL 4 HOURS?
DO I NEED TO BE SURE TO BE THERE AT 6:00?
You are free to come any time during the 6 - 10 timeframe of the event. We typically suggest arriving no later than 8:30 to ensure that you have plenty of time to visit with the suspects. Depending on crowd levels it can take up to 2 hours or more to visit with all of the suspects. Sometimes there may be a brief wait to see a suspect due to the capacity of the buildings.

WILL YOU RESCHEDULE IF IT RAINS?
This event takes place rain or shine. Due to the logistics of having our all-volunteer staff of suspects and doorkeepers available, along with the other fall events at the Village, we are unable to offer a rain date.

WHAT AGES IS THIS EVENT APPROPRIATE FOR?
Most of the time, this event could be considered “PG” rated. Occasionally, due to discussions of murder, crime, and infidelity, we may occasionally dabble a bit closer to the PG-13 side of things.

IS THE STORY THE SAME BOTH WEEKENDS?
While the overall story is the same, the two weekends do have a different murderer.

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD WE PLAN TO SPEND?
We recommend planning for a minimum of 2 hours. Please note that this can vary depending on factors out of our control. On weekends with favorable weather, we tend to have larger crowds, and as a result, longer wait times. Also, everyone is unique, so some guests may move more quickly while others may wish to take a bit more time. Some guests arrive when the event begins at 6:00 and stay for the entire 4 hours.

WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING?
Because this is a nighttime event, we recommend bringing a flashlight. Also, it would benefit you to have a pen or pencil so you can take notes about the case as you speak to the suspects. You could take these notes on the pamphlet you are given, or bring along your own notepad.

IS THERE FOOD AVAILABLE?
We are fortunate to have Strait Home Cook’n at the Village both weekends. They will have their food truck parked near the back of the Village for all to enjoy, and a portion of the night’s sales will be generously donated back to the Village!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?
The event costs the same as regular admission to the Village, $12 per person. Please note that our regular discounts for children do not apply to this event. Children’s admission (up to age 17) for the event is $10. Tickets are available at the door when you arrive and are not sold in advance. We do not have a limit on ticket sales and do not sell out.

We can accept cash or card for admission. In the Village at the General Store, we can only accept cash.

We have a talented and dedicated team of VOLUNTEER performers, many who have been with us for years, who donate their time to write, rehearse, and perform these roles for you.

They’ll have their food truck at the Village for both of our Murder Mystery Weekends! They will be serving our guests from 6 - 10! And supporting them supports us, because they will be donating a portion of each night’s sales back to Old Beford Village! Come hungry because the more you eat, the bigger our donation will be, helping us maintain the Village for many years to come!
